I believe that by adopting the nation's standards for the schools in the city is setting up the children for failure at an early age. It is unfair to force children who are to young and mentally not ready to understand advance topics. While I understand that our nation is in a competition with other nations over education and advancements toward life, these methods are creating more harm in our cities then good. These children are becoming upset and frustrated and have rebelled against the teachers and have decided that they no longer want to learn wether it be a challenging topic or not. I agree with the teachers of the city and believe that it completely unfair to demand these children learn the material that is to complex for their ages.
Children need to learn basic skills of life before learning I use them. Kindergarten is based on learning basic skills, they shouldn't push children to things they aren't ready for, it's going to discourage them from school. They need to learn numbers before they can add and letters before they can write. It's just basic steps to learning. If they rush then through these steps children are going to be discouraged and lost when it comes to school. At such a young age children should believe that learning is fun.
I think that it is too much for the kids to handle especially at the age they're at. The kids will be put into a lot of pressure that they're not ready for, which will lead them into not liking school and not wanting to go which can take an effect on the future. It is unfair for kids in kindergarden who may have just learned the alphabet to be learning second grade math. Kindergarden should be simple and easy and where the kids can have fun and comprehend the things they are being taught. It is also unfair to the kids who already have trouble learning or things don't come as easy to them or for the kids who get easily frustrated.
I think that this is actually sick and twisted. How could they expect babies so young to understand deep stuff that I am a little embarassed to admit i don't understand? Not cool. I don't think that the board of Education is being fair. Like the teacher said kindergarten is for having fun and learning new skills, not applying skills they hardly know to difficult topics.
I do not think it is right that they are expecting kids of 4 or 5 years old to be doing work of a second grader. In kindergarden a child is still developing and can be still considered a baby. Most children that age are not developed enough to be able to be doing work of a second grader like it said in the article i believe most children will react bad. They will feel like they are doing something wrong because they cant do work which isnt even at their level , this can affect their self esteem for the rest of their life. The children should be having playtime and developing the most important skill at that age which is through socializing and other activities during play time.
What kind of a sick person makes a baby do such hard work? The article says it causes frustration and anxiety, which is terrible. No little kid should feel these emotions at such a young age. These children should be learning how to spell their names, their colors, and how to count to 100. Not tally charts and commutative properties! They should also be learning to love school and enjoy going in everyday, not to hate it.
I feel that it is so ridiculous that children in kindergarten have to do the work of a second grader. At the age of a child in kindergarten I dont think they are ready to be learning material to that extent. With work that they are giving kindergarteners I feel that it is opening a door for many children to not want to attend school and give their parents a hard time because the work is difficult.
It is terrible that such a young child has to do so much work. They usually aren't ready for such hard work and need of such concentration and focus. Many young children may be turned off of school at such a young age it is not good for a teacher/school to do this to any student, at any age.
